Almost there!

Training has been going well for the last few weeks. We hope for a great turnout and good weather, but we'll settle for a great turnout. Today will be our final training run, so we'll do 5 miles. We are all looking forward to the Expo tomorrow. I find it really gets me pumped up for the actual run on Saturday. Whitesboro has already signed up over 80 students and teachers, with people registered for every event, so look for out team shirts out on the course. We have been getting the word out and expect at least a few alumni to join us on Saturday as well. The weather has been tough the last few training runs but nothing can fully prepare you for the day of the event if it gets sloppy on the roads. Better put on the snow tires if you know what I mean and run with your heart. Think of all the people you're out there helping and let the crowd cheer you on to the finish! I hope to see you out there this weekend and if you see me, give a big shout and I'll be sure to wave. Let's go W'Boro!

From a First Time Runner......

As a first time participant in the Heart Run and Walk, I feel privileged to be part of a team that has gone above and beyond in its effort to receive donations for a worthy cause. When I lent a hand to the Relay For Life last year, I was amazed at the intensity and dedication of Mr. Puckey and his team. I could tell that the team had put a great amount of time into their fundraising activities and that each member was involved in the event to the best of their ability.

I've only had the opportunity to fund-raise independently for this event, but it's been exciting and rewarding to see events such as the second annual Concert For a Cure and Soda Pong Tournament where it's become apparent that this year's senior class was dedicated to help one another and humanity in general at any cost of their own time or money. These events were creative and entertaining methods of fundraising and I hope to blog a bit more about them in future posts. I'd love to post some pictures that were taken either at the concert or the tournament, so let me know if you have any that you'd like to see on this web page.

Heart Run & Walk in Oneonta

Roughly three hundred people turned out for SUNY Oneonta's annual indoor Heart Run and Walk on Saturday, February 9. It wasn't hard to get people to the gymnasium; heart disease has touched many people who participate in the walk.

Booths offering information on heart health and nutrition were set up for participants and visitors. Weight, family history and diet: there are a lot of factors that could contribute to heart problems later in life which is why nurses here say it's important to get your heart checked at least once a year by your physician.
